Overview:

On November 3, 2018, Cherry Pie Hill near Palo Pinto, Texas will be the site of the first annual Cherry Pie Hill, Hill Climb Challenge.

Cherry Pie Hill is a 1.3 mile, 5.5% grade hill near Palo Pinto, Texas. This fun and unique challenge will pit you and your bike against the person of your choice in a 1.3 mile mono-y-mono race to the top of Cherry Pie Hill.  This is an “Outlaw” (anything goes) challenge between you and whoever you decide to challenge.

Winners of each heat are determined between the two riders and no actual ride times will be recorded by the Challenge. The winner of each heat will have earned the right to deliver a well-deserved pie to the face of their opponent during the post ride lunch.

Description of Event:

This event is open to all cyclist and all skill levels.

Cherry Pie Hill is a 1.3 mile, 5.5% grade hill near Palo Pinto, Texas. If you have wanted to compete against someone in a fun and challenging contest, this is your chance. This fun-for-all challenge will pit you and your bike against the person of your choice, your chosen call-out, in a 1.3 mile mono-y-mono race to the top of Cherry Pie Hill. Winners of each heat are determined between the two riders and no actual ride times are officially recorded by the Challenge. The winner of each heat will have earned the right to deliver a well-deserved pie to the face of their opponent during the post ride lunch.

 

Type of Riders

The Cherry Pie Hill Challenge is open to all level riders. Riders will create their own challenge by calling out a rider of their choice. Riders can ride as fast or slow as they want and only THEY* can determine the winner of their challenge. Participation in the endurance portion of the Cherry Pie Hill Challenge is optional. The ride is a partially supported ride, with one stop midway through the endurance ride.

 

Contest

Paired riders will receive numbers that will correspond to a starting order. Each contest will line up at the bottom of Cherry Pie Hill. Starting line will be managed by a Start Marshall. Start Marshall will confirm both riders are ready to begin their contest allowing sufficient time for prior pair to engage the climb. Multiple challenges will be on the hill at the same time and riders could overtake a prior group.

If both contestants agree to a staggered start, time or distance, or any other variances from a standard contest, the Start Marshall will confirm agreement then release riders.


Challenge Format

·         The ride will start in Palo Pinto, Texas

·         After approximately 40-45 miles (final route will be determined closer to the ride) riders will arrive at the              bottom of Cherry Pie Hill

·         All registered riders will receive a “Heat” number

·         Riders for each heat will be released in 30-60 second intervals

·         No times will be recorded

·         No rules will be made

·         The winners will be determined by the participants of each heat

·         IMPORTANT: If there is interest in having a speed heat, we will have one heat for everyone who wants to            compete to be the fastest rider for the day (October 13th King/Queen of the Hill)

·         When you register, indicate your heat competitor’s name or if you want to compete in the speed heat

 

Registration Donation

The $49 registration donation will include your commemorative T-Shirt and lunch after the ride which is sure to include a slice of cherry pie!  All proceeds will support non-profit health and wellness activities in and around north Texas and support the Health’s Angels 2019 Bike MS fundraising activity.  Register Now!  

 

Ride Logistics

The ride has one distance option composed of two parts. Both parts, the endurance ride and the Cherry Pie Hill Challenge will total approximately 45-50 miles. The Cherry Pie Hill Challenge will start around the 45 mile marker. If the paired riders agree to not participate in the endurance element of the ride they can mutually agree to only participate in the Cherry Pie Hill Challenge element of the ride.

 

Win-Lose-Tie

The winner of each heat will be determined by and agreed to by the riders of each contest. The winner will have earned the right to deliver a pie to the face of their opponent. If they are not able to come to agreement as to the actual winner by the time they arrive in the lunch area, ride leadership will declare the contest a Tie and both riders will receive a pie to the face. In no other case will ride leadership intervene in the contests or the outcomes of each contest.

 

Health and Safety

This is an open course and is subject to normal traffic for this area. While normally light, it is a public road and riders are subject to all inherent risks associated with public roads and cycling.
